Xylo: High Notes, Low Notes (Gr. K-2)
Description
In this lesson, students will learn basic music vocabulary, such as pitch and scale. Using the Xylo app and Dash’s Xylophone attachment, students will differentiate between low and high notes. Then, students will write music using only lower or higher notes.
Objectives
- Learn basic music vocabulary
- Differentiate between high and low notes
- Create music in the Xylo app using only lower notes
- Create music in the Xylo app using only higher notes
- Use fine motor skills to color shapes and stay within the lines
Lesson Procedure
- Class 1: High Notes, Low Notes (30 minutes)
- Class 2: Composing Songs (30 minutes)

- Dry erase board or chart paper
- Dry erase markers
- Eight crayons in colors similar to those in the Xylo app (red, orange, yellow, green, teal, light blue, dark blue/violet, and light purple)
- Black marker or crayon
- High/Low worksheet (1 per student)
- Xylophone worksheet (1 per group, plus 1 for modeling)
- Projector or interactive display with mirroring capability
