Vocabulary: Escape from Vocabulary Island (Gr. 3-5)
Description
In this lesson, students will work in small groups to complete a story map and write a short story about an imaginary place called Vocabulary Island. Their stories must include teacher-selected vocabulary. Students will then program Dash to act out parts of the story that include vocabulary words, demonstrating an understanding of their usage and meaning.
Objectives
- Properly pronounce and determine or clarify the precise meanings of vocabulary words
- Fill in a story map integrating vocabulary words
- Write a story about Dash's adventure on Vocabulary Island using selected vocabulary words
- Program vocabulary words to demonstrate their meaning
Lesson Procedure
- Class 1: Story Maps and Stories (30 minutes)
- Class 2: Program Dash (60 minutes)
