Space Systems: Day and Night with Dash (Gr. 1-3)
Description
In this lesson, students will predict the patterns of day and night based on the movement of the Earth. Students will create models of the Earth’s movement using Dash and Dot.
Objectives
- Recognize that the Earth revolves around the sun
- Identify how day and night are created by the movement of the Earth
- Create a model of the Earth’s movement around the sun using Dash and Dot
- Identify daytime and nighttime in a simulation of the Earth’s movement around the sun
- Write a program demonstrating Earth’s rotation
Lesson Procedure
- Class 1: Observing Dash's Shadow (30 minutes)
- Class 2: Dash Orbits Dot (30 minutes)
- Class 3: Simulating Day and Night (30 minutes)
- Class 4: Modeling Day and Night (30 minutes)
