Sight Words: Outta' Sight Words! (Gr. K-1)
Description
In this lesson, students will “teach Dash” a list of sight words. Students will practice sight words by writing them on index cards and drawing a related picture. After placing sight words on a programming mat, students will work in small groups to program Dash to travel to a selected sight word, say the word, and perform a related animation or movement.
Objectives
- Read common high-frequency words ( i.e., one, two, three, red, yellow, blue*) by sight
- Write common high-frequency words
- Practice Sequencing a set of instructions for Dash and Dot
- Create an Algorithm for Dash using the Blockly app
- Demonstrate understanding of the following basic programming functions introduced in Level B Challenge Cards: Sounds, Animations, Movements, Lights
- *Any grade appropriate sight words may be substituted. Sight words used in this lesson are from the Dolch Sight Word List for Pre-K
