Shape Attributes: Dashing Shape Artist! (Gr. 1-2)

Description

In this lesson, students will identify and draw shapes. Students will then work in small groups to construct an attachment for Dash to hold a marker and program Dash to draw each shape according to its attributes.

Objectives

  • Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or equal faces
  • identify squares, circles, rectangles, triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and rhombi (or teacher may determine 2D shapes used for this lesson)
  • program Dash to draw a shape based on a prescribed set of attributes using Blockly
  • program movement, turns, and loops
  • design an accessory for Dash to draw a shape

Lesson Procedure

  • Class 1: Building the Attachment (30 minutes)
  • Class 2: Programming (30 minutes)
