Robot Kitten Dot (Gr. 3-5)

Description

Can your students transform Dot into a kitten? There's no kitty litter required.

Objectives

  • Eye Pattern block - students will customize lights in Dot's Eye Pattern block to make it look like Dot has whiskers.
  • When block - students will execute a command by setting an event in the When block, i.e., top button and clap, and will understand that When events are like statements. When they are true, the subsequent command is executed.
  • Sound block - students will add pre-programmed sounds from the Say block, i.e., sigh and meow.

Lesson Procedure

Students will learn how to edit and program a When block with an event that, when met, will execute a command. Over the course of 4 challenges, students will program Dot's Eye Pattern to look like whiskers, and then make the sigh and meow sounds when triggered by pushing Dot's top button and clapping. In the final part of this challenge, students will be able to "play" around with their robot-kitten.
