Measurement: Dash to Great Lengths (Gr. 1-2)
Description
In this lesson, students will work collaboratively in small groups to program Dash to draw three different lengths of lines. Students will estimate the lengths of these lines and then measure them using non-standard measurement (an extension to standard measurement is optional). Students will then compare the lengths of each line.
Objectives
- Estimate how many objects are needed to measure each line
- Measure lines using non-standard measurement
- Use different objects to measure the same line
- [Optional] measure lines in centimeters using a meter stick for standard measurement
- Compare the length of three lines
- Use measurement vocabulary for comparing (e.g. long, longer, longest)
- Program a sequenced set of instructions which may include lights, sounds, movement, and accessories using the Wonder app
- Program cues in the Wonder app
Lesson Procedure
