CS First - Probability (Gr. 4-6)

Description

This lesson, designed for Grades 4 to 6, will bring probability and computational thinking to life with CsFirst. You and your students will explore 5 essential probability math activities that help to not only help develop the ability to code and learn mathematics, but also to enhance problem solving and creativity. During these activities, students will explore probability concepts starting with vocabulary and building up to designing various experiments within the CS First environment.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this lesson students will:

  • Understand probability concepts by designing a story to go with various terms such as “Certain”, “Likely”, “50/50”, “unlikely”, and “impossible.”
  • Design a coin flipper and create experiments to test out what happens when a coin is flipped 10, 25 and then 1000 times.
  • Learn how to calculate the probability of chance using coding and dice by designing a game.
  • Design a Probability Game that can be altered depending on the chances they want to happen.
  • Learn how to code Median and Mean in CSFirst, then create probability statements based on the information provided.
