CS First - Exploring Music and Sounds (Gr. 4-6)

Description

This lesson, created and intended for grade 4-6 teachers, will walk you through integrating the CS First Music and Sound unit in order to complement your Music class activities! During these 5 activities, students will have the opportunity to directly explore and integrate the components of the music curriculum by coding talent contests, dance parties, a DJ battle or even a music video! Moreover, the notions of coding loops, conditionals, functions and more will subtly be integrated into these activities!

Learning Objectives

By the end of this lesson students will:

  • Learn to use loops to create a dance party where they can play and tweak with the music, making their character dance and move.
  • Learn to use conditional statements to create an artistic canvas and associate a sound, a note, and a series of notes.
  • Use debugging to participate in a talent contest where each of the characters they create will use a different coding feature.
  • Use variables and their musical creativity in coding their own DJ table.
  • Create a music video clip within which they can create their own musical score, modify its rate, add additional sounds to it, modify the backgrounds, characters and more.
