Climate and Weather: Dashing through the Seasons (Gr. K-1)
Description
In this lesson, students will work in groups to determine a weather-dependent activity related to a season. Using lights, sounds, and movement, they will program Dash to act out a scene related to a seasonal activity.
Objectives
- Recognize seasonal activities and patterns related to weather
- Share observations about the weather related to each of the seasons
- Sketch to illustrate outdoor activities related to each of the seasons
- Program Dash to make sounds
- Program Dash to move forward, backward, or turn
- Program Dash to turn lights and eye ring on or off

- Board (e.g., clipboard, cardboard, cutting board; approx. 60 cm x 35 cm; 1 for teacher demo)
- Thick book (1 for teacher demo)
- Dashing through the Seasons worksheet (1 per group)
- Pencils (1 per student)
- [Optional] supplies to make a costume, props, and/or scenery for Dash (e.g., colored paper, crayons, scissors, masking or gaffers tape, etc.)
