Applying Research Skills: Robot Design (Gr. 3-5)
Description
In this lesson, students will work collaboratively to find examples of robotic home technologies that they find appealing. Using Dash as part of a model, students will work to design a prototype to program and demonstrate one improvement or addition to the existing robot.
Objectives
- Conduct a short research project that uses two sources to build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic
- Improve a feature of a technology design
- Create a prototype using Dash and self-made attachments
- Program Dash using the Blockly app with loops, conditionals, events, functions, and variables
Lesson Procedure
- Class 1: Selecting a Technology (30 minutes)
- Class 2: Research and Recording (30 minutes)
- Class 3: Evaluating and Recording (60 minutes)
- Class 4: Plan and Build (60 minutes)
- Class 5: Program and Test (60 minutes)
