Random Colour Ball (Gr. 3-5)
Description
Are you game to code your own game? This colorful puzzle will turn Dot into a wild ball of cool colors. Ready, set, code!
Objectives
-
Connecting Blocks - students will add blocks to a program.
-
All Lights - students will edit All Lights to program Dot's ears and backlight to light up in programmed colors i.e., black, red, green and yellow.
-
When/condition - students will edit the condition in the When block, i.e., Toss
-
Set variable - students will edit a random set, e.g., (1-3) using the dice icon in the Set block menu.
-
If variable - students will set a particular value for the If variable in the If block (e.g., x = 1) and will understand that when an If statement is true the subsequent action will execute (e.g., If x = 1, Dot will turn red).
-
Sound - students will use a pre-programmed sound from Say block, i.e., Wee!
Lesson Procedure
Using a Set Variable students will program a set of numbers from which Dot will randomly select a number when tossed. Students will program 3 different If blocks with variables, as x = 1, x = 2, x = 3. Each number when selected by Dot will invoke a programmed color. The main objective of this puzzle is learning to program a random set of variables with an If block designating what happens if a specific variable is selected by Dot when tossed. For example. If Dot selects 1, Dot will turn red.
